Effects of Treatment with Olanzapine on Real-World Relevant Task

A Report On Data Obtained In A Pilot Project…

A proposal in 2003 presented prior pharmacological research that has utilized the Strategic Management Simulation (SMS). The SMS is a technology that measures real-world relevant functioning in patients who are treated with therapeutic pharmacological agents.

This pilot research compared real-world relevant performance of schizophrenic subjects after treatment with the anti-psychotic medication Olanzapine in contrast to treatment via other antipsychotic medications. Prior research had indicated that atypical antipsychotics are more effective in improving functioning of schizophrenic subjects than typical antipsychotics (Bilder et al., 2002), and that treatment with Olanzapine can generate significant improvements in processing speed, attention, as well as in general executive and perceptual organization.
