Preface: Dr. Siegfried Streufert

I met Dr. Siegfried Streufert in the fall of 1993 at Pennsylvania State University, College of Medicine, in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Dr. Streufert was a world-renowned scientist known for his contributions to the field of Applied Social Psychology and theories in Cognitive Decision Making and Behavioral Complexity. My pre- doctoral efforts in applied psychology led me through the cross-sections of industrial, clinical, and social psychology. I found a natural home in Dr. Streufert's Strategic Management Simulation laboratories and it was there that I began my journey in the theory and application of Behavioral Complexity. Over the next several decades, as I moved locations and affiliations, Dr. Streufert continued to be a colleague, friend, mentor, and a major source of intellectual inspiration for my work until he passed away on April 17th, 2019. He leaves behind a rich legacy of professional contributions to the field, including foundational theory and innovative technology.

It is my distinct honor, in collaboration with Dr. Richard Crisp, current Editor of the Journal of Applied Psychology to commemorate Dr. Streufert's life and contributions with this special issue of the Journal of Applied Social Psychology. While it is nearly impossible to capture the wisdom and vision of a man of his complexity, we have attempted to highlight his influence in a multitude of fields of scientific inquiry.
